CARBON REGENERATION KILN
Stantil’s horizontal rotary carbon regeneration kiln offers effective thermal efficiency in a compact footprint. It is based on the traditional Ansac design which has proven to be one of the most consistent and reliable systems in the gold industry. The kiln is indirectly heated and can be configured for either diesel, gas or electric power sources.
ROBUST CARBON REGENERATION KILNS
HEAT EFFICIENCY
The Stantil horizontal rotary carbon regeneration kiln offers effective thermal efficiency in a compact footprint. The heat tube is suspended along a horizontal centre line from a yoke support at the feed end to the main drive gearbox at the discharge end. By removing the need for riding wheels the entire length is encapsulated, dramatically improving heat retention and fuel economy. Carbon regeneration requires a temperature range of 650-750 degrees for a period of around 20 minutes to ensure that any accumulated organic material from previous adsorption is removed. The Ansac kiln has a heat economy of approximately 1kW per kilogram of processed material.
PROCESS ATMOSPHERE
One of the conditions required for effective management of the carbon during the process of regeneration is the presence of steam in the heat tube. This acts as an inert cover, preventing oxidation and combustion of the carbon as it reaches the higher temperatures. This steam atmosphere is created inherently from the water content of the carbon itself, through evaporation as it enters the heat tube. This co-current self generating steam process eliminates the need for the injection of external steam into the process.

RESIDENCE TIME
The residence time of product within the kiln is attained by the balance of a number of factors. These include required material throughput, heat tube length & diameter, rotational speed and bed depth. Specially designed internal lifters ensure the carbon is gently promoted forward through the tube, while being evenly exposed to the heat tube for optimal indirect heat transfer.
BENEFITS AND ADVANTAGES
Our carbon regeneration kiln achieves excellent regeneration, with a high degree of thermal efficiency. The system is economical, reliable and easy to operate. Stantil will work with clients to ensure optimal kiln performance, with maintenance support and ongoing spare parts provision throughout the lifecycle of the equipment.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the purpose of a carbon regeneration kiln?
A carbon regeneration kiln is used to thermally reactivate activated carbon by removing organic fouling and restoring adsorption capacity prior to reuse in gold recovery circuits.
Kilns are designed to process activated carbon recovered from gold adsorption circuits, within defined limits of particle size, moisture content, and contamination level.
Effective regeneration restores carbon adsorption capacity, directly supporting gold recovery efficiency and consistent plant performance.
What operating temperatures are typically used for carbon regeneration?
Regeneration temperatures typically range between approximately 650°C and 800°C, depending on carbon type, fouling characteristics, and required regeneration efficiency.
Multiple temperature measurement points are provided along the kiln, with automated control via PLC to maintain defined thermal profiles and safe operating conditions.
How is residence time controlled and why is it important?
Residence time is controlled through kiln geometry, rotation speed, and feed rate. Correct residence time ensures effective removal of fouling compounds while minimising carbon degradation and attrition.
How is consistent regenerated carbon quality achieved?
Consistent quality is achieved through stable temperature control, uniform heat distribution, controlled residence time, and repeatable operating conditions.
How does the kiln manage moisture removal?
Kilns incorporate pre-drying and staged heating zones to remove free moisture and residual water in a controlled manner prior to high-temperature regeneration.
The kiln utilises this vapour to create the necessary superheated steam atmosphere within the heat tube without any need for additional steam injection.
